A Note of Thanks from TCSF
January 25, 2010
As we say goodbye to 2009 and make plans for 2010, the Trussville City Schools Foundation wishes to thank our community supporters for helping the Foundation fulfill its mission of providing advanced technology and learning equipment for Trussville’s schools.
Our 2009 spring campaign, “Bridging the Gap” kicked off what was ultimately a successful fundraising year, despite a flagging economy. During the summer, the naming campaign at the new Hewitt-Trussville High School continued with another 14 rooms named. Over 165 rooms and spaces have now been named.
In October, a group of golf-playing supporters of Trussville City Schools Foundation participated in the second annual Faith Community Fellowship Golf Tournament at Limestone Springs Golf Club. The event raised $4,700 with proceeds benefiting the Foundation.
Of the 14 teams competing, the foursome comprised of John Daniel, Sr., Danny Allen, Tyler Erwin and Jake Dreher took top honors. Touring golf pro Justin Estes, son of Joe and Marty Estes of Trussville, also took part in the event.
Prizes ranged from golf balls to free rounds of golf at Limestone Springs. Sponsors included Alabama Power, Davis Architects, LBYD Inc., State Rep. Arthur Payne, as well as 15 others businesses and individuals that generously supported the tournament.
“We feel fortunate to have such strong support from our community,” said Zeke Smith, TCSF president. “Even in extreme financials times such as these, we have had over 200 individuals and businesses donate to our cause in 2009.”
Thanks to the generosity of its donors, TCSF disbursed $50,000 in the spring meeting the most pressing needs at each campus and then again in the fall for classroom needs and saw its endowment reach $100,000 in October.
On the Foundation’s agenda for 2010 is fulfilling some high-profile naming opportunities at Hewitt-Trussville High School, including those for the athletic arena and the performing arts center.
“This would help meet so many of the educational needs in our schools,” Smith said. “Our school system has been greatly impacted by proration, resulting in a $1.9 million reduction in state funds for this year alone, so we as a community must step up to meet these needs.”
For more information about opportunities for contributing to TCSF, visit www.trussvillecityschoolsfoundation.org or contact Marty Estes at 205-228-3052. Donations may be mailed to Trussville City Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 1110, Trussville, AL 35173.
TRUSSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES THE ENDOWMENT HAS REACHED $100,000
Endowment reached $100,000!
TRUSSVILLE, ALABAMA. The Trussville City Schools Foundation recently marked a milestone with the announcement that its endowment has reached $100,000.
“Building an endowment is a vital part of what we do as a foundation because it will allow us to meet future needs,” said Executive Director Marty Estes. “It gives our schools an investment advantage they can’t afford to be without.”
In addition to making periodic contributions to the endowment, the Foundation has disbursed over $300,000 to Trussville’s schools, all earmarked for classroom needs. Over 300 individuals and businesses have contributed to the Foundation since its inception in early 2007.
“In these tough economic times, we need every citizen of Trussville to help us in our mission to support our schools,” said Estes. “We also want to thank so many of you who give, even sacrificially, knowing that the strength of a community is a reflection of the strength of its school system. We have the best, and we must work hard to provide the extras that make it stand above the rest.”
