Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mission Statement of the TCS Foundation?

The mission of the Trussville City Schools Foundation is to mobilize community

support for the Trussville City Schools and to secure resources from individuals,

corporations and foundations for the support of the schools system that will stimulate

each student to reach his or her fullest potential.

What is the purpose of the TCS Foundation?

The Foundation seeks to provide funds for

classroom needs that are not covered in the school

system’s general budget. Working in cooperation

with the Trussville City Schools superintendent and

principals, the Foundation identifies areas where

financial support is crucial to achieving goals or completing projects

and works toward fulfilling those needs.

What kind of community difference will the Foundation make to

our community?

Top-notch schools such as Trussville’s are a source of pride for any

community. Striving for their success unites us as we work toward a

common goal. Well-educated young people make brighter leaders for

the future. And as our schools draw people and business to our city,

property values rise.

What are the Foundation’s long-term goals?

Our loftiest long-term goal is to establish, maintain, and build upon a

substantial endowment fund, which will provide year-to-year funding

of projects not normally funded by other sources. To

do this, we’re working to develop the kind of broad

and lasting community support from parents, teachers,

corporations and other foundations that will sustain

the Foundation for many years to come.

How will the current economic situation affect

our schools?

The economic recession has arrived in Trussville,

and one of the most significant areas the downturn

is affecting is our school system. Due to state budget

proration, Trussville City Schools leadership is considering various

cutbacks which once instituted, will continue well into the 2009-10

school year. Among the areas most likely affected first are two things

that make our system unique: extensive use of technology in the

classroom and continuing education for classroom teachers.

Now, more than ever, your help is needed to bridge these

and other shortfalls for our students, the future leaders

of our community.

What are the Foundation’s immediate goals?

As our endowment fund builds, the TCS Foundation will all

along provide funding for classroom enhancements such as

technology upgrades, media equipment, laboratory equipment,

and professional development. We have met and will continue to

meet many needs at the new Hewitt-Trussville High School. As

our other school facilities expand, they, too, will benefit from the

Foundation’s efforts.

How is the Foundation’s leadership structured?

A board of directors, consisting of community leaders dedicated to

the success of our Trussville City Schools, considers the needs of each

school. The directors work closely with liaisons, including the TCS

superintendent, a TCS Board of Education member, a Trussville City

Council member, and a Trussville Chamber of Commerce representative.
